GET TO KNOW YOUR CYCLE

One cycle. Four phases.

A changing rhythm. A little more understanding, phase by phase.

01

A NEW BEGINNING

Menstruation

Day one of your period marks the start of a new cycle. Your uterus releases the lining it built during the last one. How long you bleed, and how you feel, can change from cycle to cycle.

Some days call for a softer pace. Choose rest or movement based on what feels right for you.

02

BUILDING TOWARD OVULATION

Follicular

This phase begins with your period and continues until ovulation. Follicles develop in your ovaries, and rising estrogen helps the uterine lining build again.

There is no universal energy schedule. Notice your own patterns rather than following a fixed day-by-day rule.

03

A MOMENT, NOT A FIXED DATE

Ovulation

An ovary releases an egg. The timing can shift, even when your periods seem regular. The fertile window includes days before ovulation, not just the day the egg is released.

A temperature rise usually follows ovulation. It is not a reliable advance warning of the fertile window.

04

THE CHAPTER AFTER OVULATION

Luteal

After ovulation, progesterone usually raises your baseline temperature. If pregnancy does not happen, hormone levels fall and another period begins. You might also notice changes in mood, sleep or how your body feels.

A pattern means more than one reading. Illness, sleep disruption, travel and alcohol can also affect temperature.

Your rhythm is your own.

Cycles do not all follow a 28-day timetable. These descriptions cover cycles with ovulation; hormonal contraception, pregnancy, breastfeeding and perimenopause can change the pattern. If pain, heavy bleeding or other symptoms disrupt your life, speak with a healthcare professional.
